when i stop sewing

Plants Die.

When i stop sewing

And yes, it’s true.  I’ve had that skirt ready to sew up for nearly three months.  Holiday sewing took precedent the entire month of September and in 2011, I’ve been happily knitting along.  Also in 2011, I’ve come to find myself travelling quite a bit for work.  Already an entire week in Dallas, TX now tomorrow I’m off to Austin TX.  I’m excited to see some new sites and catch some live music in this legendary musical city.  However, that means that there is little time for sewing and sock knitting is oh so easily portable and a welcome reprieve while flying.

I’ve been quite productive on the knitting front, finishing a hat and a cowl already this year.  I’ve started on some hedera socks by Cookie A. and hope to finish these before valentine’s day.  These will be the first socks I’ve knitted (and finished) for myself, all of my previous sock ventures have been lovingly gifted to my mother.

This week I’ll be travelling, but hope to have a post of fun Austin TX when I return.  I can’t wait to pick up my iphone, then I’ll be able to post on the road.

Happy New Year

Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Chinese Garden, Vancouver, BC

Yay!  2011 has finally made an appearance.  I am so very excited for the new year to begin.  I am ready for a new perspective and want to change the way I do everything, well almost everything.  There are so many things to accomplish in this new year.  I’m going to start by writing all of the things that I want to do in the new year down.  Right in this here blog, for the whole world to see.  I’m ready to be accountable.

This year I am going to:

  • Eat better and be better to my body (yes that means running on a regular basis!)
  • Blog more (and better!)
  • Be more connected to my friends and family
  • Be more deliberate in my crafting
  • Fill my Etsy shop with wonderful items
  • Thrift more
  • Form a crafting circle with my old friends
  • Meet new friends who have common interests

My other list of to do’s this year include:

  • Make a Quilt – Hopefully queen sized!  I have never thought of myself as the quilting type, but I have seen oh so many fabulous ones out there in the blogosphere that I’m determined to make one of these pieces of art for myself.
  • Learn to embroider, well embroider better I guess.  I am going to download some sashiko patterns and running stitch my heart out until I like the results.
  • Knit a sweater from the Vogue Knitting Winter 2011 Issue – and do it while the winter is still upon us.  There are oh so many that I adore from the preview, but I think i might have to start with this one:

  • Make lots of pillow covers for our living room
  • Finish decorating our master bathroom
  • Make a table runner and placemats for our dining room
  • Take pictures of all these things and provide updates on this here blog

As for today, the mister is juicing some oranges on the new juicer I received for Christmas (what a sweetie!) and I have a hat to finish knitting.  I’m through the ribbing and am determined to knock this one out by the end of the day.  I think that’s a fitting way to spend the first day of my new year: accomplishing, completing, and being satisfied.  My only question now is, what should my next accomplishment be?  Feel free to pick something from the above list(s) or suggest something else completely!  I’d love to hear from you.

Pictures on the orange funny mohairy hat will be coming soon.

Happy 2011 Everyone!
